statement

Statement:  I have known since grade school that I would be an artist. How fortunate I was, therefore, to have Charles Breed as a mentor. He has encouraged and challenged me since middle school .

I can’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t been creating art.  An artist’s creativity changes as life changes but the creative process has provided focus for my more than fifty years of artistic experimentation. The creative process challenges my ability to problem solve; it is completely engaging and it gives me great pleasure and pain.

If there is one word to describe me as an artist , it would be  curious.  Over the years my curiosity has led me to explore a wide range of media including:   jewelry and metalsmithing, printmaking, blacksmithing, paper making, wood working, basket making, polyester resin, water color, acrylic, clay, found object sculpture, collage and assemblage.  These explorations have provided me with a variety of useful tools and skills to apply to current and future work.
